As a member of the 7th Group of Polish Red Cross Volunteers, I have had unique opportunities of seeing the war on the Russian front, of being in actual battles, of working in the firing zone, and of knowing the Russian soldier as he ought to be known—as a splendid fighting man with the splendid faith and optimism that must lead to victory. I was with the rear-guard during the great retreat through Poland. I was the only English-speaking man in Warsaw at the time of its fall, and the last to leave the town.
